TIP: A new 2010 law limits the ability of an insurance company to obtain repayment of benefits from an injured person who recovers damages from the party responsible for the injury. The law also requires that an insurer seeking repayment must pay a proportionate share of the injured person's attorney fees and costs to obtain the settlement or judgment.
