Dog Bites
-
A
Colorado statute passed in 2004 regulates lawsuits against
dog owners. The Office of Legislative Legal Services
is in-house counsel for the Colorado legislature.
Following is the Office's summary of the new dog bite
statute. The summary says, in part, that the new law
"(P)ermits a person... who suffers serious bodily
injury ... from being bitten ... to bring a civil action to
recover economic damages against the dog owner regardless
of the viciousness or dangerous propensities of the dog or
the owners knowledge thereof."
